Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested five suspected terrorists from Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Hyderabad, and Ranchi, claiming they were part of a larger network planning “anti-national activities” in India.

According to police, the arrests were made after weeks of surveillance and coordinated raids across multiple states. Officers seized a cache of explosive-making materials, including hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfur powder, sodium bicarbonate, ball bearings, circuits, diodes, and motherboards, believed to be used in assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Arrests Across Four States
Two of the suspects were apprehended in Delhi, while one each was arrested from Madhya Pradesh, Hyderabad, and Ranchi. One of the accused, Ashar Danish, a resident of Bokaro, Jharkhand, was detained in Ranchi and was already wanted in a previous case. Delhi-based Md Aftab and Sufian were among those arrested in the capital.
“These individuals were receiving instructions from handlers abroad and were preparing for large-scale attacks in Delhi and other cities,” a senior officer said.
Weeks of Surveillance and Raids
Over the past two weeks, Delhi Police teams conducted raids at 12+ locations across states to dismantle what they described as a “sophisticated terror module” with international connections. The suspects were reportedly using encrypted communication apps to avoid detection.
Similar Crackdowns in the Past
This isn’t the first time the Special Cell has uncovered such a network. In August last year, Delhi Police detained 14 suspects across Delhi, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, alleging ties to an al-Qaeda-inspired module and recovering assault rifles and other weapons.
Authorities are now working to trace the financing and logistical support of this latest group.
