The Former Spanish Ambassador to India, Gustavo de Arístegui, visits Anantapur to learn about the Vicente Ferrer Foundation’s programs and also present the award to Anna Ferrer. Gustavo de Arístegui states that “The Foundation is an exemplary project and an inspiration of life for all”.
His visit to the Foundation had a double meaning: as Ambassador of Spain in India, Gustavo believed that it was fair to renew his support and that of the Embassy for the Vicente Ferrer Foundation and its work in Anantapur; From his point of view, the visit has been enormously enriching and has allowed him to confirm that the human will together with helping others are the most powerful instruments in the field of development. It has been a truly unique experience for his family and him, exclaims Gustavo de Arístegui, one of those vital turning points that open your eyes and change your perspective of life. During his visit of almost three days, he has been able to visit the Foundation’s campus, where he has maintained contact with Spanish volunteers and aid workers, many of them young people who give part of the best years of life to needy people from a remote region of India. Their lives in an altruistic and exemplary way. He has been able to visit in detail the impressive Bathalapalli hospital, the project for children with cerebral palsy and AIDS, sustainable agriculture projects, women, bioenergy, education and schools for children with blindness and deafness, as well as the workshops for women with disabilities. Gustavo de Arístegui has been very satisfied, even excited in most of the projects, even though he was aware that it is only a sample of everything the Foundation does in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Although every one of the Foundation’s projects deserves to be highlighted, Gustavo would like to underline something beyond its brilliant results: the perfect harmony and organization to the millimetre in its operation. India is not a country where it is easy to launch such ambitious projects, covering so many fields, and requiring exemplary organization and coordination. The Foundation understood this from the beginning, identified the needs of a very poor district and understood that the only way to help was through an exemplary operation. The concept of integral development and the extraordinary results that have been achieved in all areas is a legitimate source of pride for the Foundation and for all those who have contributed to its objectives with their work or donations.
According to Gustavo de Arístegui, there are many surprising things about the work of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation: one of them is the affection of the inhabitants of Anantapur for Anna Ferrer, Moncho Ferrer, Jordi Folgado and, in general, for the Foundation workers. It is equally striking that in many areas of a very little tourist district in South India the working language of the Indians in Spanish. And the love for children, reflected in beautiful detail: next to the soberly beautiful grave of Vicente Ferrer there is a kindergarten in which the children cared for by the Foundation play at sunset.
Gustavo very many doubts that there are development projects as comprehensive and long-lasting as that of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in Anantapur, with an organization and surprising results, even for those of us who have gone there with very high expectations.
