Russian forces have closed in on Ukraine’s capital, apparently trying to surround Kiev after a barrage of air strikes on cities and military bases around the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued another video address on Saturday morning, reassuring Ukrainians that he was in the capital and repeating his message that Ukraine will not surrender.
“I am here. We are not putting down arms. We will be defending our country, because our weapon is truth, and our truth is that this is our land, our country, our children, and we will defend all of this,” he said.
Russia said it had captured the city of Melitopol in southern Ukraine on Saturday morning, which would mark the first city to have fallen to Russian forces since the invasion began
