In a shocking incident from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, a woman and her mother have been arrested for allegedly killing the husband over a long-standing property dispute. The victim, identified as Sonu (35), was reportedly drugged and strangled by the two women, police said.

The body of Sonu was discovered on Sunday morning in Jivana Guliyan village, prompting his brother to file a complaint. Following the complaint, the Binouli police station registered a case against seven individuals and launched an investigation.

During the inquiry, police found that Sonu had been embroiled in a dispute with his mother-in-law over a piece of land. Sonia, Sonu’s wife, and her mother Saroj reportedly confessed to planning and executing the murder.

According to police, Saroj had purchased a plot some years ago for Rs 3 lakh, which has now appreciated to nearly Rs 30 lakh. Sonu allegedly pressured her to transfer the property into his name and even threatened to make public a secret video he had recorded of her bathing.

Distressed by the threats, the mother-daughter duo allegedly hatched a plan to kill him. On Saturday evening, they reportedly laced his milk with sleeping pills. Once Sonu fell asleep, they strangled him with a rope, attempting to stage the death as a suicide. They also destroyed his mobile phone and hid it in a straw-filled room before performing the last rites.

Binouli Police Station In-Charge, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, confirmed that both women were produced in court on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody. Police have stated that further investigation is ongoing to uncover any additional accomplices or details.

The case highlights how property disputes can escalate into extreme violence, underscoring the need for timely legal intervention in familial conflicts.
